Comments

While the San Jose city police department does not directly report crimes on their website, they defer to a third party service, CrimeReports.com (listed in the source) as their database platform. CrimeReports.com's mapping tool is even provided on their site to report on individual crimes, while they provide yearly statistics on another page. CrimeReports.com's data is freely available to users, but not machine-readable or really indexable in any way, since the only view method available is the map view. Other cities in the same county, such as Santa Clara police department offer realtime-generated PDF crime reports on their site, and hopefully San Jose police department will follow soon. Overall, this access method is adequate for informing the public, but having indexable lists and machine-accessible data provided directly by the department would be much better.
